A healthier, wealthier me. . . hopefully

I don't always set resolutions. However, I do think it is a good idea to occasionally take stock of your life and find ways to improve. I always have various things throughout the year that I'm thinking about and working on.

Here are a few things I'm currently working on and hope to do so in the new year as well.
  • Get out of debt . . . quickly. Hopefully before I go insane or go on another shopping spree!! Jake and I have made up some budget tracking stuff in Excel. Every penny we spend goes on the chart. This comes in pretty useful. I'm on a tight budget for now, but I have high hopes that I will acclomplish this one. If not, I'm bound to scream, stomp my foot, go lay in bed and wallow in my depression (I feel so picked on when I can't go out and buy whatever I want). So let's hear it for getting the credit card payed off!
  • Get into shape. Nothing crazy, I just want to be able to run a few miles without much problem or hike up a mountain without wondering why I like hiking. No more lazy days of movies and couches and reading and thinking about doing stuff, but not actually doing it. Well maybe I'll have days like that still, just not as many. I mean I'm trying to set realistic goals here. I seem to set this goal about 6 times a year. I get all pumped up and do really well for 3-4 weeks. Then I'm generally overcome with an extreme case of laziness that lasts for about a month. This is followed by by guilt and disappointment in myself. And the process begins again. So we'll see how long this lasts. Any suggestions about how to keep up the routine would be welcomed.
  • Live a more sustainable lifestyle. I've been trying to be more aware about where stuff comes from and where it goes when I'm done with it. This year I'm going to try and buy most of my meat and produce from local farmers/ranchers. I am going to try and shop at local stores. Bike more. Drive less. Put up a clothes line this summer. Use less plastic (watch this video if you have time).
  • And lastly - do the laundry, clean the house, and go grocery shopping for the week all in one day. (Update 1/10/2009: It's not going to happen).
